Education and Competency Validation

This on-line course provides fundamental education and content essential for all clinicians inserting ultrasound guided peripheral IVs, as it is segmented into 7 learning modules that will enable clinicians in provideing safe and efficient insertion. This on-line learning has been used in successfully training hundreds of new and experienced inserters throughout the United States.

The On-Line Didactic Course offers comprehensive information on patient assessment, the ultrasound machine, venous site and vascular device selection, aseptic technique, and, of course, the biomechanics of insertion, which uses human factors engineering to ensure best practice insertion techniques. Once this course is completed, a Knowledge Assessment Exam is provided and requires a passing score of 90%. Note that this online course is not sufficient in providing novice inserters safe and easy transition to clinical practice.

The Live-Streamed Skills Acquisition and Precepting Course is not mandatory for seasoned inserters, but offers real-time instruction and feedback for practicing skills under simulation and real workplace settings. This course should be seen as mandatory for novice inserters who want to become experts in this procedure.

Competency Validation may be completed when the Knowledge Assessment Exam has been successfully passed.

Pre-requisite: You must be competent in traditional PIV insertion prior to taking this class.
