This BASIC PACKAGE contains three hours of didactic knowledge-based content that allows users to access step-by-step instruction how to safely insert USG PIV's using evidence-based, best practice guidelines.

This self-paced on-line content has been successfully used to train hundreds of clinicians who are inserting ultrasound guided IV's in acute care hospitals throughout the United States. Please take note: this BASIC PACKAGE is NOT intended to be used as a sole guide for beginning or novice inserters.

Pre-Requisite: Students must be competent in traditional PIV insertion prior to taking this course.

Standard Package

Ultrasound Guided PIV Insertion

This STANDARD PACKAGE includes the on-demand, comprehensive three-hour didactic course and knowledge assessment exam, video evaluation and feedback by an ACE faculty and pass/fail competency evaluation by video, resulting in a competency certificate when passing.

Who should take this course: Healthcare workers with good vascular access knowledge and bedside experience, with expertise in USG PIV Insertion and the desire to have AVA verify competency with clinical experts.

Pre-Requisite: Students must be competent in traditional PIV insertion prior to taking this course.

Advanced Package

Ultrasound Guided PIV Insertion

Description: Intended for the practitioners with limited experience and knowledge, who would like to structured ultrasound insertion education. This package includes both the 3-hour didactic coursework, knowledge assessment exam and video competency verification, and adds 7-hours of interactive lab simulation and precepting with a clinical expert.

Who should take this course: Novice, beginning inserters, or those who would like to receive formal training to improve insertion quality and success rates.

Pre-Requisite: Students must be competent in traditional PIV insertion prior to taking this course.

  • What happens if I fail the knowledge assessment exam?

    This exam will provide unlimited attempts. Please note the passing score is 90% correct. You might want to return to instructional course to review provided content if your score is low.

  • How do I receive my competency validation?

    A link will be provided that will send you your competency validation and CEU's once the requirements for passing are completed.

  • Will I have to take a skills test?

    To receive your competency validation, two tests will be required to be successfully completed - the Knowledge Assessment Exam and the Skills Demonstration (Video) Practical.

  • I'm great at inserting USG PIV's! Why do I need to take these classes?

    If you're already competent at USG PIV insertion, you might want to take these courses for a number of reasons - maybe you haven't been formally trained and you largely learned on your own experiences. Another reason may be that you'd like to increase your success rates or have AVA clinical experts validate your competency.
